Starting from May 25, the Chinese Language and Culture Education Office (CLCEO) of Huaqiao University (HQU) will give a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) literacy live course for overseas Chinese youths under the guidance of Fujian Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese and Fujian Huang Zhongxian Education Foundation. The first session, dedicated exclusively to the younger generation in Spain, was live streamed on Wechat channels and Zoom.
This session was given by Wang Yongli, attending physician from Xiamen Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine and extramural supervisor of CLCEO’s youth volunteers team. Wang illustrated the history of TCM with a story from Journey to the West, where in the Monkey King gives medical treatment. She explained TCM mysteries by responding to questions such as “Is it reliable to take the pulse with a string?” “Can we trust Monkey King’s diagnosis?” and “What is pulse diagnosis?”
More than 900 people attended the webinar, including students from Colegio de Idioma Chino en Madrid, Wulan Grupo, Centre Cultural Confuci, and other Chinese schools in Spain, as well as leaders of these schools and CLCEO.
After the lecture, the youngsters expressed their growing interest in TCM with an increased knowledge of the culture. They hoped to learn more about TCM in the future sessions.
The TCM literacy course developed by HQU caters to the needs of overseas Chinese youths. It serves as a better way to communicate Chinese culture worldwide.
This event was co-organized by the Spanish Federation of Chinese Language Schools and Xiamen Congci Traditional Chinese Medicine Culture Communication Co., Ltd.
